I do love my weekends. One of my biggest joys when I was able to drop my day job and work full time on my writing was getting my weekend back. I guard them jealously. Amazingly enough, I got everything I wanted done, done. Five new bushes in the ground, (All too big for me to move on my own, which isn’t saying that much.) grass all pulled from the new bed, and Guy even made a special trip out for the mulch since we miscalculated and didn’t get enough. I even had left-over stones, which I didn’t expect. (Good garden stones are valuable.)
Inside, I managed–over the course of two days and three movies–to cut down two sets of lined curtains. (Looper, The Patriot, Dances with Wolves.) Made pudding too. (laugh)
But the best part of the weekend I had very little to do with, which was a joy in itself. One of the rooms the contractors had been working in finally opened back up, and Guy, Thing One, and Thing Two moved furniture out of halls, away from against walls, out of storage facilities, and closets. The house has been crowded all summer, and getting that space back–getting it back and functioning even better than before–is like a spring cleaning and new-car smell all at once. Even the dogs didn’t hide while stuff was being moved, and that’s saying something. Allie hates change. Any box bigger than two by two is met with distrust and terror.
I’m hopeful that the new plants I got in the ground will encourage a few more birds into my yard. The visual break is now about five feet thick, which will feel more secure to a bird than sitting on an open fence.
I’m starting GBU tomorrow in the read-along. The e-book goes on sale Tuesday in the US markets. [links to multiple devices] And if you missed it, the first of Harper’s read-along sweepstakes is going on. Easy to enter, and I believe Canada is included. [Harper Sweepstakes]
