Review of THE AFFAIR

The Affair (Jack Reacher, #16) The Affair by Lee Child

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As a confirmed Reacher junkie, it wasn't about if but more about when I read it. Now that I have I can say that I really enjoyed it. Lee Child takes us back to the beginning before Reacher left the army. He is assigned to 'impersonate' a civilian to keep an eye on a murder investigation in a small town in Mississippi. For the first time he isnt the one assigned to the case. Was the murderer a civilian or someone from the nearby army base at Fort Kellum. The army looks to cover its back and the local sheriff, a beautiful woman at that, has a case to solve, but no one is talking. A classic Reacher story where we get to know all the little characters in the town and how he teases out the answers to the murder mystery. A combination of physicality, raw power and way above average intelligence is a potent package for a lead character. If you enjoyed the previous Jack Reacher stories you'll be sure to love this one too.
