Here's a crazy thought.
It's recently come to my attention that Goodreads readers are hesitant to enter giveaways because to do so requires sending physical addresses to authors. A physical address is required because print copies are the ones to be given.
Personally, I'd never be comfortable doing that, either. No way, no how. Ever.
So I have an idea.
My latest release,
Blessed Are the Wholly Broken is available now for preorder on Smashwords, Apple, Kobo, and Barnes and Noble, and a 20% preview is available on Smashwords (link above). The official release date is October 18. It's a down and dirty novel about a family that self-destructs.
Well, that's what it is. What can I say? I like dark.
I wanted to do a giveaway on Goodreads, but am not comfortable asking readers for information they're not comfortable giving.
So.
Anyone who comments on this post will be eligible for a free Smashwords coupon for an ebook download, to be given October 18. Smashwords offers formats for virtually all ereaders; you just redeem the coupon at checkout and choose your format.
Here's my plan: I'm a mom (a mom who believes in simplicity), so for all comments on this post, I'll enter the name in a hat (my 13-year-old's hat, because he wears really freakin' cool fedoras) and one of my kids will pull names. The first three will win a free code to a download from Smashwords. IF the winners are okay with providing a physical address, I'll send a physical copy direct from CreateSpace. If not, that's fine, too.
I WILL need to be able to contact winners through Goodreads in order to give them the Smashwords code for the free download. But I swear I won't stalk, harass, or otherwise contact anyone. I don't care whether or not readers give a review, but if they do, it should be honest and forthright and free from worry of bad-authoresque type behavior.
Because I'm a firm believer in "Once I put it out there, it's no longer mine."
I love books. I love reading. And this is just plain fun (heaven knows, we need a little fun these days).
