Natasha Knight – Aching To Submit

achingtosubmit_full

Today I’m thrilled to welcome the enticing Natasha Knight to Friends on Friday. Natasha has written an intriguing new book Aching to Submit. I asked her to sit down and let me interview her and she was kind enough to agree. Let’s hear what she had to say.

What was the inspiration behind this book?

The initial idea for Aching to Submit came from my publisher. As soon as I heard it, I knew I’d have to write it even if it would be a very difficult one to write. I think the situation Sophie was in – hiding her kink from her husband out of shame – is a reality for a lot of us. Through the writing of this story, I was able at least to share some of the emotions I’d felt for a long time. The fact that it’s set in Amsterdam and given our recent move also played a role. It was interesting for me to see what came up as I wrote certain scenes and struggled with quite a few of them. But in the end, Michael and Sophie got their happily ever after…

Which character spoke to you the most while you were writing this book or which was you favorite?

Sophie I would say. She was truly an expression of me. Although I loved Michael just as much, he was kind, tender, loving while at the same time completely dominant, sexy as hell.

Tell us about your favorite atmosphere for writing.

Complete silence. Where depends on my mood, either my study or the kitchen table. I love to eat strawberry Twizzlers that have gotten old and hard while I write – only 4 at a time though – otherwise they’re too sweet.

Tell us about your “discipline” for writing. How do you balance writing with the rest of your life?

This makes me smile. I’m disciplined about nothing mostly. Luckily, with small children, you’re limited in time so I do it while they’re at school. I do try to get to yoga at least once a week if not twice and am working on finding balance. Does anyone have this figured out? (I don’t think so! lol)

Do you have a project in the works that you’d like to tell us about?

I’m currently working on my first Medieval story. It’s set just after the death of King Arthur and tells the story of one of his Knights. It’s my first in this time period and elements of fantasy – especially legends of Avalon – come to play some role in this. Of course, the focus is the love story but it’s a lot of fun incorporating my take on the legends of this time. (Sounds awesome!)

How do you make yourself stand out in a competitive market?

I think quality is the most important. I try to stay consistent in the quality of my books and tell a complete story each time. Of course hot sex and spanking scenes help ;)

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Just a blurb and snippet from Aching to Submit so here it is… Thanks so much for having me Normandie.

Blurb: Though deeply in love with her husband Michael, for years Sophie has longed to give him not only her love, but her submission as well. In spite of her yearning to kneel at his feet, fear of rejection keeps her from sharing the truth with him. Though she would never give her body to another man, her need to submit drives her to seek out others like herself and learn more… until Michael discovers her deception and she fears her marriage may be over.

Despite the anger and sadness which tear at his heart when he learns that his wife has kept such an important secret from him, Michael is not going to give up the love of his life without a fight. It will take time, but he is more than ready to be the man she needs, the man to whom she will gladly submit. First, though, she must be firmly disciplined for her betrayal of his trust…

Standing naked before her husband, awaiting a punishment which will bring her to tears and leave her bare bottom red and sore, submission suddenly feels truly real to Sophie for the first time. As Michael asserts his dominance more and more with each passing day, Sophie begins to see him in a way she has never seen him before, and her desire for him seems to know no bounds. But is this just a second honeymoon of sorts, or will Sophie’s submission endure through the trials of everyday life?

Publisher’s Note: Aching to Submit is an erotic novel that includes spankings, anal play, exhibitionism, graphic sexual scenes, elements of BDSM, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

Excerpt: This is a scene where Sophie has just seen Michael with his ex-wife and her two year old. Sophie hasn’t been able to get pregnant again after two miscarriages and is feeling overwhelmed and guilty. Not knowing what else to do when confronted with Michael’s family and seeing him with the ex, she leaves the party, leaving Michael stranded there. This is their confrontation – it’s through this conversation that Michael understands what she needs and what he needs to do:

“You okay?” Michael asked as she stepped out of the car.

Sophie nodded. “Sorry I left you there. I just didn’t know what else to do.”

“Let’s go inside and talk,” he said.

She nodded and he took the keys from her hand, locking the door and leading her toward their house. Once they were inside, he settled her on the couch.

“You want something to drink?” he asked. “I could use a beer.”

“Me too.”

He nodded, went to the kitchen and returned with two opened bottles of beer. She took the one he held out for her, but didn’t sip. He remained standing and drank half of his.

“I didn’t know she’d be there,” he said.

“I know you didn’t.”

“They why did you leave like that?”

She turned her head away, standing herself now. She walked to the bookshelf, then turned to face him again. “Because I watched you with Rosa. You’re different around her, around all kids from what I’ve seen. You want to be a dad, Michael. I’m not sure I can ever give you that.” Tears overwhelmed her, but she forced herself to go on. “And then she was there, your ex. With her beautiful little girl. She could give you babies. And she’d fit in better. Your family obviously loves her. Maybe you and Karen could mend your relationship too if I weren’t standing in the middle of it. Maybe we’d better just figure it out now. Maybe we’re not meant to be together.”

“Christ, Sophie. What the fuck are you saying? What are you thinking?”

She straightened her spine. “Look, even what we’ve been doing. You’re doing it for me; it’s not like you want it.”

“That’s separate from this, Sophie. And you’re wrong. More wrong than you know on that score. And as far as what I want, I’ll decide that.” He walked away, then turned back to her a few moments later. “You want me to feel sorry for you, Soph? Because that’s what you’re doing, isn’t it? Is it easier that way?”

A defensive anger tightened her lip.

“Well, is that it? Have I hit a nerve? Sophie,” he asked, stepping closer and taking her arms. “You won’t let yourself get over it. The miscarriages were not your fault. Not being ready to try again isn’t your fault. Hell, we don’t even know what the problem is, but you won’t give us a chance to figure it out! You’re stuck feeling sad and sorry for yourself. Well, I’m over it.”

“Then why don’t you just leave! If you’re over it, over me, then leave. Go back to your ex.” Her throat tightened and a tear slid from her eye. “If that’s what you want, just go! A readymade family just for you! You’re not tied to me, I’ll give you a divorce…”

Sophie stopped, her eyes suddenly wide as the bottle Michael held snapped in his hand. It dropped to the floor and rolled away as he approached her. She looked at the carpet, the liquid spreading over it, the blood dripping from his palm. But when his hands closed roughly over her arms and shook her hard, she looked up at him.

“I want you. I love you. I’m not over you, I’ll never be over you. I am, however, over you feeling sorry for yourself and not giving us a chance to be happy. Yes, I want babies; that hasn’t changed, it’s probably not going to change. But I’m not willing to give you up in exchange for a family. I want a family with you. When the hell are you going to get that through your thick head?” he asked, his anger barely contained as he shook her again. “Christ, Sophie, what the hell do you want from me?”
