Auditioning Sexy Narrators
I’ve been auditioning voice-over artists for the job of narrating my book Daddy Morebucks. What a fun and interesting process. In the end I hired the most fabulous voice-over artiste I could find and she’s wonderful! Not only does she have the most amazing voice – but she’s a darling person as well.
But to get to that point…was an interesting journey. First I listened to many demos. At night, while my husband and I watched television I muted the tv during the commercials and played a demo of one of the artist’s demos. After the brief clip was over we’d both make a comment or two and I’d either add them to my “favorites” list or I’d move on to the next one. For the most part my husband and I agreed on whether or not that voice would be right to read my book.
Then I found some clips of narrators reading erotic passages. I blushed a thousand shades of red when I heard this woman’s sultry voice reading, “She unzipped his pants and pulled out his cock. She wrapped her fingers around his throbbing penis. Bending her head…” I pressed stop.
My husband protested. “Keep going!”
I laughed. “I didn’t like it.”
“Why’d you stop it? She was doing something good there!”
I giggled so much I almost peed in my pants. “Really?”
He said, “Okay, that came out wrong. I meant with her voice.”
“Uh huh,” I said, not buying it. He continued to insist it was the voice he liked, but I think it was the content. Lol.
Later, when I received auditions of passages from Daddy Morebucks – some of them made me so embarrassed that I wanted to hide under the covers. In fact I think I did.
My husband thinks it is hysterical that I get embarrassed hearing my salacious words read back to me. But I can’t help it! It makes me want to curl up in a ball.
I have no problem with what I write. My family knows what I do, and I’m proud of my work. But I do have some serious boundaries and hearing my own kinky words kinda freaks me out. Maybe it’s like those actors who never go see their own movies. I know I will have to listen to the whole thing during production and I have some trepidation about it, but I believe the narrator I’ve chosen will make it as painless as possible.
I’m a huge lover of audiobooks so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bring Daddy Morebucks to audio. We expect it to be released by the beginning of November.
