Interview with L.M Young
Hi there, it’s lovely to meet you, tell us something interesting about yourself?
I was born and raised in Alaska. I am of Inuit descent. I have been writing since I was a teenager, although most was just recreational. We have a very large family and live on the east coast of the United States. I am a Lupus survivor and use that as a spring board for my concept that nothing happens by chance and we must all take our obstacles in life and make them our lessons to live by.
I don’t know a lot about Lupus, apart from the bits I have read on the internet however I agree that it is not the obstacles, but rather the way in which we overcome them which ultimately defines us…So, is writing your full time career?
Writing is a true passion for me. So, if I can make a living out of that passion then, I couldn’t be happier about it.
If you could have written any other book by any other author, what would it be, and why?
Anything written by Kahlil Gibran, or Dr Wayne Dreyer
What Genre is your work – Do you have any plans to work outside of it?
I write spiritual pieces. I don’t necessarily think there is anything out of that genre…only because everything comes from the spirit. Not necessarily in a religious way, but in a “we are all one” way.
What inspired you to write your first book?
Jan. 4 2011 my sister passed away. Writing was the only way I knew to keep her energy alive. The way that the whole world would have the opportunity to experience the love we shared. I write under the pen name L.M. Young…in memory of her
I can’t begin to imagine the pain that you must have gone through, however I am glad that you found a way of turning that pain into a positive. Do you ever get ideas at random moments, and if so how do you hang onto them?
I don’t know if it is a random moment; but I can be lying in bed and a thought or statement will come to my mind and I MUST get up and write it.
That sounds pretty random to me! Which was your favourite character to write, and why?
I am not sure about a single specific character, but I enjoy writing from the perspective of the abused or neglected human being. I think it is important to give these people a voice.
What are you reading at the moment, and why?
I love to read anything by Khaled Hosseini and am looking forward to reading his newest release “And The Mountains Echoed”
What is your favourite movie and why?
I have quite a few, for different reasons. I love “A Time To Kill” because the closing statement made by Mathew McConaughey’s character was genius. It is important that we are able to connect to people in that way. I was captivated by “The Laramie Project”. It made me cry and deeply saddened me, so much so, that I wrote about it.
Do you have an opinion on life after death, and if so what?
Yes, I do. The soul lives forever, so in that logic, we can go on living forever…via the vessels of other people, animals or entities.
What do you have in the pipeline?
I just finished my new book “In The Blink of An Eye” It is a book which allows the reader to experience my journey of grief.
It is on my list and I am looking forward to reading it! Do you write poetry or short stories as well? If so what? I have written 3 Inspirational Poetry books and several short stories.
~Petals of Peace
~The Light of Our Path
~Children of Mine
How do you overcome writers block?
Yo Yo Ma!! His music moves all road blocks.
Ah, the cellist! For those of you who haven’t heard of him you can check YO YO MA out on You Tube…If you only had 60 seconds remaining on this planet, what would you say, and who would you say it to?
I would tell my family to remember to find forgiveness in all things. To remember that there is goodness and love in all things…find it.
What advice would you give your 18 year old self?
Don’t give up, things are going to happen, but do not let it deter you.
