I've come to realize that you can't please everyone and GR has some pretty critical reviewers. I especially hate it when they don't even finish a book, but yet rate it or rate it without even reading it. If you don't like the book, fine. I try to steer clear of leaving reviews for books I didn't like. I usually say something along the lines of "didn't work for me". My thoughts go for every genre. I'm sorry that you had to deal with a "diva reader", as you called it (pretty accurate description, I might have to steal that ;)

Well said sweetie, give it to 'em, and Csndice, I do exactly the same...if it doesn't work for you, just leave it at that!!
Ditto to Suzy, Bev and Candice and well said Kade! *high five*It's OK not to like a book for whatever reason, but if readers feel they should be treated with respect then they also need to be just as respectful about what they write!! If they don't like something then an even greater degree of tact and diplomacy is needed and if you can't do that then don't say anything at all.
Kade wrote: "Seems like "DNF"ing a book says plenty about your opinion of the book. Just saying."Kade, didn't you know, I loved the book so much that I didn't even finish it?

You nailed it, Mark. Respect, diplomacy and tact is needed... on both sides. :)
Diva readers is so the phrase for some GR members I have run into. Instead of reviewing a book like an adult they instead review a book as if it was beneath them, and then they "hold court" with others who think like them and bash away at the book and its author. Whatever happened to treating others the way you want to be treated? GR members like this will never be a friend of mine, nor will you find me jumping in and contributing in such an attack.
Ditto to Suzy, Bev, Mark and Candice. Just stopping by to give Candice a quick (((HUG))) and let Kade know I can't wait to meet him at GRNW :)ps: you just pushed this book way UP on my TBR list!

Well said guys. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I fully support that, but a negative review can be done with respect and tact. I know we readers go on about not wanting the authors to react to our reviews but we too need to respect that the author is emotionally attached to their work. If you need to criticise then do it constructively or just don't bother at all. I don't like this trend of readers getting on the bandwagon and boycotting authors just because one person has had an issue. We're adults aren't we?
I usually don't want to get involved in this stuff, but because a lot of my friends are commenting both on this thread and the reader's particular thread, I just wanted to say this:We can all stand to handle each other with a little more respect...both sides.
Authors, we buy your books in the hopes to be entertained. And I hope that you understand the feeling of having the right to an opinion. I think you have to be prepared for some bad reviews and not being able to make everyone happy.
Readers, authors work hard at what they do and much of their writing is personal. We don't have to like everything out there nor is it our responsibility to shelter an author from bad reviews, but we can understand hurt feelings or frustration.
Two sides to every coin...but let's just respect each other in the process. It doesn't have to turn ugly on either side.
Now let's all join hands and sing kumbaya... :)
Hanne wrote: "I'm in total agreement with what Bev, Mark, Suzy, Candice, Paul, Tina, Gina and Macky said!"Thanks Hanne. There really was no need for the vitriol that has come forward from certain people who have rated this book with 1 star I'm afraid...if you don't like a book just say so and leave it at that, that's what I do. I can understand what you're saying Susan, but why are readers allowed to say what they want and author s are not allowed to respond?? Macky makes a valid point about people not jumping on bandwagon and making constructive criticism....none of what.is being said by others is constructive in the slightest I would venture to suggest.
Macky wrote: "Mark wrote: "Ditto to Suzy, Bev and Candice and well said Kade! *high five*It's OK not to like a book for whatever reason, but if readers feel they should be treated with respect then they also n..."
Think you nailed it Macky, why not make constructive comments instead of attacking and making bitchy remarks remarks, that's not what I want when reading reviews. Some of things I've read recently on GR are ridiculous and blowing things out of proportion.

Well said, Susan!
I think the final thing I can say on this is that people don't get that I WAS FRIENDS WITH THIS PERSON. Like, I didn't just randomly attack some poor unsuspecting reader. This person was someone I have been a friend with for a LONG time, but acted like I wasn't in the sake of starting THIS on GoodReads. So all of this has been in vain for those thinking I randomly attack all dissenting opinions of my book. I promise I dont care if your review is bad. I will NEVER please everyone and I know it. Hell, I don't even think myself capable of being one of the "big M/M authors". I just am having fun and when it's not fun any more (which it's QUICKLY moving in that direction) I'll move on to something else. Thanks on both sides... and feel free to look back and see that I am KADE first, reader next, writer last. I give respect as a human being daily and ask for the same in return. Now.... lord can this be over? sheesh. there's so many new books coming this month! (Who's ready for the new Rhys Ford?!)

Ummm...we can talk about Topher DiMaggio (Andrew Christian model), but his hair drives me INSANE! I just want to mess it up.
Macky wrote: "Johnny Rapid... Now there's a naughty little minx! Lol. ;)"He certainly is, and Candice I didn't look at Topher's hair I'm afraid **blushes**, but I'm sure it's lovely!!
Gina wrote: "Ok I am going to have to look these up cuz I don't know who they are? How sad is that?? :D"I'm going to have to look them up too. I'm always down for some "research".

Aha, so that's what you're calling it!!

yes, dear that is what we are calling it "RESEARCH" HEHEHE
Gina wrote: "Ok I am going to have to look these up cuz I don't know who they are? How sad is that?? :D"I'm getting on google now!
Johnny Rapid. Yes, please :) I feel like a pedophile since he's so baby faced, but hot damn... Wonder if Johnny has ever bottomed for Topher. Now I am off to "research" ;)
Johnny talked to me on twitter a few days ago and followed me back and I still don't think I've recovered. I can't lie. He completes me. #BabyDaddy
I am jealous, Kade! His 21st birthday party is coming up, you should get tickets and go ;) Then report back.
Candice wrote: "I am jealous, Kade! His 21st birthday party is coming up, you should get tickets and go ;) Then report back."I'm not sure he'd have the energy for any reporting back Candice, and Johnny is definitely a baby face...wonder what his real name is??
Kade wrote: "Ooohhh Heather can we talk about Sean Cody models?"Hellooooo Brandon over at Sean Cody?!?!?! Plus they are in my area of town in San Diego. I'm sure (hoping) one day I'll see them doing their pics and I can stand there and drool like a big perv *sigh*. Also, has this drama kept you from writing? Because THAT would be the big sad!

God, lucky you Ann!! No wonder most of them have lovely suntanned butts!! And Kade is (hopefully) working away as we speak...although probably thinking about Johnny Rapid!!

I know right?!?!?! Knowing my luck I'd spot them while driving a bunch of 12 year olds to practice - "sorry boys taking a detour!" Johnny Rapid would be a smidge distracting, hopefully it's inspiration though :).
Kade wrote: "I'm working on editing A Little Complicated! It's hard with all this thinking of men"That's great news! Use your muses for inspiration, that's why they're distracting you :P.
Heather K (dentist in my spare time) wrote: "Just had to delete my search history thanks to you trouble makers!! :P"Know the feeling - my god warn a girl. Note to self no googling hot men while the kids are still up - never shut my laptop so quick! But they were yummy!

Hehe oh I was definitely inspired ;)
Kade just a quick note to say... don't let readers get to you. There are as many opinions as readers and we all get bad reviews, bad reviewers, less than hospitable fans, even stalkers at times. I always turn the tides and tell the reviewer thank you for taking the time to even buy or open my book. It throws them off guard. Take a deep breath and start tapping keys and looking forward to September when we ALL get to have a weekend of fun with others just like us.
Can I just say a big fat thank you for my wallet being a hell of a lot smaller. Due to all this hot guy talk, I went on a shopping spree for my husband. 6 pairs of AC, 4 pair of Ginch Gonch, 4 pair of Calvin Klein, and I am still shopping.
