The Birthing Process

As I lay quietly in bed this morning, I was thinking of the previous post and asking myself if it was really fair to compare the birth of the book to that of my children. Actually, the visual was stunning and the answer a resounding "yes."
I was most fortunate to be in the delivery room for the births of both my daughters. I remember vividly the feeling of watching what once was the protrusion occupying the belly of my wife's body for nine months and kicking me in the back at night on a regular basis, now emerge and take the form of a precious little being. I was in awe of the process of life and the thought that I helped create this.
Similarly, I vividly remember the feeling as I pulled the proof copy of my book from the mailer. Again, I was in awe. After 8 years of what had started with a vision and many, many hours on the computer writing and editing and editing and...oh yeah editing. I was finally holding the outcome of my labor, again knowing I created this.
In both cases the feeling was quite emotional and richly rewarding. Be well and stay thirsty my friends.
