I didn't have to ponder long about the concept of encouraging children to be writers. My good friend and soon to be published author, Sarah Glenn Fortson, is developing a program called the Blue Ribbon Writers. It's a brilliant idea for children who love to write. It is in the early stages of becoming a full fledged program for young, future writers of America. Stay tuned as this exciting idea unfolds. I will continue to update with information.
On another note, that being, published authors, Margo Dill, a very talented children's author won 2nd place in the Show-Me Book Award from the Missouri Writers' Guild. Her book, Finding My Place: One Girl's Strength at Vicksburg, is a wonderful story about a young girl and her courage during the Civil War. (Not going to give story away, as I suggest you get a copy for your 9-12 year old.) It really is an excellent book.
For all you Mothers, enjoy your special day. Maybe you will be fortunate enough to have some quiet time to read a book.
