Book Signing

June 25th, I returned to my hometown  for a book signing at the Sterling, Illinois, Public Library. It was very humbling to be asked by your hometown to return as a children's author. Several classmates came for support. Amazing!!  The event went well, and reading Quackers Wants to Fly to the children in attendance was thrilling.

What I most enjoyed were two ladies who came strictly to network about their children's books. They wanted to learn what steps should be taken to help get their books published. There I was, a first time author, having this conversation. Awesome. Networking with peers about writing or any other passion, is so rewarding. It's the connections we make in life that stand out and help pursue one's goals.

Quackers arrives

After a long wait, crossing fingers and toes, my first children's book, Quackers Wants to Fly has been published and released. My publisher, Lou Turner, from High Hill Press has been an amazing mentor. She actually took the time to explain the procedure of publishing and she actually speaks to her authors. She encourages them and tells them selling your book doesn't happen over nite. She actually tells her authors to have fun with their book and the selling will follow.

Thank you Lou.

I didn't have to ponder long about the concept of encouraging children to be writers.  My good friend and soon to be published author,  Sarah Glenn Fortson, is developing a program called the Blue Ribbon Writers. It's a brilliant idea for children who love to write. It is in the early stages of becoming a full fledged program for young, future writers of America. Stay tuned as this exciting idea unfolds. I will continue to update with information.

On another note, that being, published authors, Margo Dill, a very talented children's author won 2nd place in the Show-Me Book Award from the Missouri Writers' Guild.  Her book, Finding My Place: One Girl's Strength at Vicksburg, is a wonderful story about a young girl and her courage during the Civil War. (Not going to give story away, as I suggest you get a copy for your 9-12 year old.)  It really is an excellent book.

For all you Mothers, enjoy your special day. Maybe you will be fortunate enough to have some quiet time to read a book.

Encouraging Young Authors

Read Quackers Wants to Fly to a second grade class last week. A wonderful discussion followed about friendship. Talked about the value of friendship and how important it is to help one another. It was rewarding to have the children give feedback on my book.

After class one little girl approached me to tell me she wants to be a writer. She had written a story and wanted to know if I would publish it. I told her I could help her learn how to be published but I was an author like herself.

Hmm, that gives me something to ponder. Helping school age children who want to be authors!!!!!

Friends at the Pond

Hi, I am Sue Wolff, a first time author of Quackers Wants to Fly. It's the first book in my series, Friends at the Pond.  I am also a mother of three, a grandmother of seven,  a retired teacher and new blogger.

Ten years ago, a student of mine suggested I write a story about a toy duck which I brought to class named Quackers. Quackers became a fixture in my classroom, answering questions, teaching lessons on friendship, etc.  After writer's workshops and meetings with established children's authors, I am proud to say Quackers is finally published. It has been an incredible learning journey for me. Quackers is on a journey as well, wanting so much to fly. Hope you enjoy the simplicity of Quacker's story and fall in love with his friends at the pond.
