Los Angeles, CA (June 4, 2013) - The Source Family, the feature length documentary directed by Maria Demopoulos and Jodi Wille about Father Yod and The Source Family's radical experiment in '70s utopian living, continues its immensely successful theatrical run all over the country via Drag City Film Distribution. In addition to the film playing in 50+ cities , with extended runs at many of these theaters, the filmmakers organized special events surrounding sold out premieres. These included performances by Source Family tribute bands and pop-up restaurants serving original Source Family recipes. Source Family members have appeared in cities across the country for post-screening Q+As. The Los Angeles Times and New York Times, amongst many other publications, recognized how very special these events were. Furthermore, the film premiered at #1 on iTunes in both the "Independent" and "Documentary" charts.
Drag City now announces the release of The Source Family DVD, out June 18, 2013. Now you can experience Father Yod and all the beautiful people of the Source family on your small screen with this all-regions friendly DVD! Also, one of the defining characteristics that made the Source Family such a unique happening was Ya Ho Wa 13, their psychedelic rock band, sometimes fronted by Father Yod himself. All the music in The Source Family comes straight from the Family, and can be heard on the Original Soundtrack, out now on Drag City. Pitchfork calls it a "a convenient entry point into the Family's deep discography."
