Ray Manzarek

Ray Manzarek is no more. Co-founder of the legendary band The Doors, Ray accounted for the organ lines and played bass with his left hand on a Fender Rhodes Piano Bass. The songs of The Doors are world known. The band also thanked a large part of its appearance to the charisma of lead singer Jim Morrison. He put his poetry in the songs. Excessive use of LSD and some unfortunate provocative performances led to the demise of the band, especially after the death of Jim Morrison in 1971. That does not prevent that the music of The Doors nowadays still sounds very fresh and firm, and is certainly not out dated as many bands from that era. Ray Manzarek made a great contribution to the succes of The Doors with his catchy organ sounds. Ray Manzarek is niet meer. Hij was de mede-oprichter van de legendarische band The Doors. Ray nam er de orgelpartijen voor zijn rekening en speelde bas met zijn linkerhand op een Fender Rhodes Piano Bass. De nummers van The Doors zijn wereldbekend. De band dankte ook een groot deel van zijn uitstraling aan het charisma van leadzanger Jim Morrison. Deze legde veel poëtische teksten van zichzelf in de songs. Overmatig LSD gebruik en de vele provocatieve optredens die tot rellen leidden zorgden voor de ondergang van de band, zeker ook na de dood van Jim Morrison in 1971. Dat neemt niet weg dat de muziek van The Doors nu nog steeds erg fris en stevig klinkt en zeker niet gedateerd zoals vele bandjes uit die tijd. Ray Manzarek leverde daartoe een grote bijdrage met zijn aanstekelijke orgelpartijen. De tekening onder is een eerbetoon aan Ray Manzarek en The Doors en werd gemaakt in zwarte bic en digitaal ingekleurd. Rest in peace, Ray.
