Obama Extends Guantánamo Bay Closure Deadline Date Once More

The Closing of Guantánamo Bay detainee camp was central to the Obama's presidential campaign back in 2008. 5 years later, it is still not closed despite no new prisoners since then. Obama pledged again to renew his push for Congress to reduce restrictions on prisoner transfers so that the camp can be closed. Resettling the detainees in their home countries or in other nations is a matter of political will on the part of the president, realism on the part of Congress and trust in the USA's sizable counterterrorism measures.
