Vroom, vroom!
Thanks for joining me in my week-long celebration of my new novella Flawless, the fourth and final book in my Irresistible Attraction series.
This is the story everyone’s been waiting for (I hope, I hope!) – Steve Campbell finally getting his happy ending, with a tough, sweet and very unusual guy named Gil. Leave a comment to win your choice of ebooks from my backlist, or a chance to name a character in my upcoming Bannon’s Gym series, featuring a hot lineup of mixed martial arts fighters!
I try to set a new challenge for myself with each new book, but I never thought I’d end up researching auto racing and Italian sports cars. Luckily, a good friend of mine is an absolute auto racing fanatic, so I had a go-to person for all my questions. Researching stuff on the net is one thing, but having someone with actual expertise to consult makes all the difference.
First, I had to decide what kind of car to give Steve. I’d mentioned in previous books that he drove a candy-apple red Ferrari convertible, so that narrowed down my choices. Then I started looking at photos, and the F430 Spider leaped right out at me. I mean, look at it! It’s got Steve’s name written all over it.
The car actually becomes a character of its own over the course of the story. It’s what initially brings Steve and Gil together, and they spend a lot of time in it (and on it!).
As for the racing part, I’m lucky to live a few miles away from one of the most well-known race tracks in the country – Laguna Seca. There really is an Italian auto racing club that meets there every few months, and yes, I went out to watch. It’s an exciting experience, sitting in the stands listening to those engines rev up. I’d never understood the appeal of auto racing until that day, but now I’m an avid fan.
Steve Campbell used to be a player, until a mid-life crisis opened his eyes to his long-repressed love for Connor, his soon-to-be-married best friend and business partner. Coming out at thirty-eight means learning how to date all over again, and this time, Steve’s not willing to settle for empty one-night stands. He wants the real thing.
Gil Alvarez has never had it easy, struggling through childhood and rejected by his family for a body that didn’t match who he was inside. A skilled driver and mechanic, he’s working hard to make his auto shop a success. The last thing he needs is a rich white guy in a candy-apple-red Ferrari tempting him, but Steve’s ready smile and easygoing manner prove irresistible.
One brief, intimate encounter leaves them both hungry for more. Gil’s not ashamed of who he is, but he’s terrified that Steve will reject him—or worse—when he discovers what Gil can’t find the courage to tell him.
