Amazon May Think I'm Cheap, But I'm Not Giving It Up For Free!

Screw you Amazon, nobody calls me cheap and gets away with it...I'm classy, dammit!

You know, I have put up with quite a bit from Amazon without complaining. I'm a pretty easy-going gal,  I tend to take most things in stride.

So when my ranking goes from 50,000, or so, to 250,000...I shrugged my shoulders and kept plugging away. When Amazon refused to post several reviews from people who genuinely read and loved my book, I muttered a few choice remarks about 'Big Brother' and whatnot, but I have too much on my plate already...so I let it go.

Your ranking doesn't mean jack, you bastards! I'm way too awesome for your crap scale anyway.

This, however, is beyond comprehension...and I'm not taking it lying down, or bent over. Why do I bother to set a price for my book when, without my knowledge or permission, the marketing geniuses at Amazon offer at a 67%  discount.

Am I not even worth a measly $2.99? People pay more for a freaking Happy Meal!

Okay, it's not going to win the Pulitzer or anything, but the grammar is impeccable (this time) and it is positively  lousy with literary devices. Not to mention the plot; seriously, the plot is crazy good...I promise, I designed it myself.

Oh well, screw it...if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

For a limited time only (I have no idea how limited), buy Control for only $.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*God, I feel dirty.

Kristin Bwahahaha! 99 cents huh? You SHOULD feel dirty. I didn't know Amazon could change/set the price and how can they refuse to post reviews?! Did you offend them in some way? 0.o

You know what's funny? My rank shot back up to around 50,000 after I posted this yesterday. I think I scared them a little. ;)

Kristin Hilarious! You clearly intimidated them. Or perhaps they were worried about coming across as a bad pimp, selling you so cheap?

They don't have any problems allowing "reviews" by the likes of the infamous Harriet Klausner! Not ..."

Yes, I was shocked to find out from a couple of people that Amazon refused to post their reviews of my book. The email they were sent from Amazon alluded to the possibility of the review being biased in favor of the author. I'm still unsure of how they came to that conclusion. I agree with your statement about the lack of moderation for 'negative' reviews...I have seen some that were appalling!

Thanks for sharing that article, I had not read that particular piece but have read others like it. It is a catch-22, I guess. If you go through the trouble of seeking a publisher, you won't make much money, but you will get plenty of publicity.

That is the good thing about self-publishing. :) The reward is much better as long as you have a good product and truckloads of patience and persistence!

I have to admit, I had never looked at author ranking until I published a book. Now it's just another thing that I perseverate on as I try to market myself.

**sigh**

Ironically, since publishing this post, my ranking has dropped to around the 8000-10,000 mark. Hmmmmm, interesting. :)

I agree, it does smack of censorship. Then again, after looking at the links you shared, maybe it is the power of commercialism?

However, the distinction in this instance, is negligible. Either way, their policies are clearly not designed to serve the common man...I am reminded of Machiavelli rather than Orwell. :)

I've never cared for Orwell though...just thinking about Animal Farm gives me the heebie jeebies!!

Oh, you're welcome! I hope you get great use out of 'perseverate', it's a great word but an unfortunate activity, and one I do too often!
