To those whom I’ve offended

I’m sorry. Truly. Not a PR move or an excuse; I feel awful.

I took the blog post down because I hated the idea of offending anyone else.

Stephanie I don't know what I missed. But Hugh, I know there are people that can take things the wrong way, or simply blow it out of proportion. But I am still a fan of your work and love following your posts :) And I also got some of your books I need to read and catch up on :)

Holly I just searched out the original blog that's posted elsewhere and I see nothing to apologize for TBH. It was an honest piece IMO. If you had named people it would have been different - but you didn't. On the offense-o-meter this ranks at nothing for me (As a Canadian *and* a woman).

Katy Yes, I'm with Holly. There are a certain subset of people who will take ANY excuse to throw a fit and assign you blame. I thought the post was pretty funny, actually. So sorry you caught the raw end of the stick on this one.

Kat I agree with everyone else. Totally not offensive. FUNNY. Big difference.

Gea I think, Hugh, that you are being quite hard on yourself. I proudly consider myself a feminist (the new F word of today) and found nothing offensive about your blog. You are a writer and it is impossible to write anything interesting without offending someone. It is your duty as a writer to honestly express yourself. It's clear from your writing and from having met you that you respect and value women. Juliette is one of the most awesome badasses in fiction! So give yourself a break and keep on telling us how you feel! You know we love you.

David VanDyke Don't let the PC police get you down. Emulate Harlan Ellison, one the of greatest, who was not afraid to offend people when speaking the truth. What passes for news sources in the publishing world obviously twisted the story, conflating the crotch-grabbing with the final inflammatory phrase, and ignoring the context, to drive traffic to their sites.
