Death of the Chris Hani's Vision
Chris Hani was the leader of the South African Communist Party and chief of staff of Umkhonto we Sizwe, the armed wing of the African National Congress. He was a fierce opponent of the apartheid government. On April 10 1993, he was assisinated outside his home in Boksburg. He was accosted by a Polish far-right immigrant named Janusz Waluś. Clive Derby-Lewis, a senior South African Conservative Party M.P. and Shadow Minister for Economic Affairs at the time, who had lent Waluś his pistol, was also arrested for complicity in Hani's murder. Both are serving life-sentances. According to Zapiro's cartoon Walus and Derby-Lewis may have assassinated Chris Hani but his vision of a fairer South Africa has been killed by the present day ANC leadership.
