South Africa at the Bedside of Mandela

Nelson Mandela aka Madiba is in hospital. Every time Madiba goes to hospital South Africa shudders so much so that the Presidents's office assures us that he is doing well. We need to accept that Mandela is at an age of senility. Lets face it South Africa and the world has taken enough from him. It is time to honour the man by letting him be. One day, we need to accept that Mandela will die and we will have to come to terms with it and yes, although it will be a day of great mourning, South Africa will still move forward as a country. Zapiro drew this powerful cartoon with a speech balloon saying "I know its hard but we have to start letting go". It was so powerful that after some thought the editors at The Times thought it was better to take the speech balloon away for their PRINTED edition and that one was eventually published. However what's meant to be will always find a way. The cartoon with the speech balloon on was inadvertently published online on the Timeslive site depsite the initial hesitation from the Times editors. Most reaction to the speech balloon (including phone-ins on the John Matham radio talk show )was positive. While some thought there was disrespect, there is NO disrespect. On the contrary. Zapiro's cartoon with the speech balloon shows respect.
