You Need To ... You Need To ... Can You Hear Me?

You need to ...
A common preface to a lecture coming my way
From an arrogant know-it-all of a person
Thinking to lord himself or herself over me
Well I have news for you pontificating one
I too have a heart, brain, soul and skill
Therefore I can think for myself
Which means you may submit your thoughts
But not push, demand and dictate
I embrace, believe, agree, or follow them.
So while we are on the topic of "You need to"
How about this beloved one
You need to stop being so dictatorial
You need to get a life and let me live mine
You need to get a backbone and spine
You need to stop being so damn passive-aggressive
You need to deal with your jealousy and insecurity
You need to confront the nemesis of your life, not me
You need to submit your thoughts more tenderly
You need to respect others as you do yourself
You need to not be so emotionally attached to your beliefs, ideology and advice when someone disagrees
You need to have a bit more confidence and emotional security
You need to open your mind and see the world a bit differently
Perhaps you need to begin by allowing others to think and speak differently
You need to learn how to play with pain and perform under pressure
You need to stop trying to pull people into your orbit of self-pity
You need to realize not everyone's life's journey will take your preferred path
You need to know that your predisposition is not all there is for me
You need to stop beginning sentences with the limiting words "you need to"
Because beloved you are flesh and blood, not deity
Your opinions are neither sage-like, nor divine
I know because your life is not all that so fine.
Therefore in the midst of your "You need to" lecture
Before you begin, allow me to render a conjecture
Parroting your spouse's words, that is my step-monster
Well, let me tell you, there is little allure
At least in the midst of all your "You need to" ing...
Throw in a few words of your own before ridiculing
Because your paradigm does not define
Your experience will not limit, nor direct me
Fatherly advice I welcome and embrace wholeheartedly
Fatherly advice spoken in love I appreciate and value dearly
However arrogance that belittles and alienates me so you can feel a degree of superiority
Ha! I won't allow this nonsense and foolishness in, on, or around me!
Because you need to wake up and know me
I'm a warrior, who shall live and always be victorious
Regardless of the nemesis whining in the distance about me
Oh, excuse me, I must be about my business
As a new horizon, divine opportunity and blessing awaits me
When you change your mental and emotional frequency
Do please then get back to me.
Can you hear me and finally feel me?
