The Castle… from “Mactus” in “The Light-Bearer Series” by Emily Guido
The limo was now passing through progressively harder perimeter checkpoints for entrance to the castle.Neal and Tabbruis gave the correct identification to each one. There were passwords, finger prints, voice recognition, retinal scanning and finally, physical identification by the security chief of the castle.
Tabbruis explained there was also invisible fencing and cameras constantly being monitored by specialists. There were also nightly foot patrols.
Charmeine could see Shane’s eyes light up with fevered interest.
Tabbruis told him about the Satellite Intel the castle had. From it, security was able to see everyone coming on or off the property. Also, the castle was self-sustaining and set with everything needed for many years.Shane smiled and nodded because he liked the field of security. He knew it all from the Army Special Ops Squad. “So it is a literal fortress?” Shane asked.
“Definitely, we will be safe here,” Tabbruis replied with grin.
When the limo parked in front of the castle, it did not look like a fortress at all. It seemed like a sea-side villa. It was bright, airy with tons of lights, and the landscaping was spectacular. There were ponds, statues, carved bushes and flowers all around. She asked, “Tabbruis, what is the scent I smell in the air?”
“The Black Sea is here, my love. We will be living by the sea,” he replied with a kiss to her forehead.
She smiled from ear to ear.
Tabbruis knew the sea was as appealing to her as it was to him.
In amazement, Charmeine asked, “Why did you ever leave this place? It is wonderful, like a dream or fairy-tale!”He tenderly embraced her and whispered, “Because I needed you and our son.”
She closed her eyes thought, ‘Thank you, God; he found us.’
*****
A man with black hair tied in back started to walk toward the family. He was tall, dark and very handsome.
Charmeine thought he looked ‘Apollonian’ from the circle of Greek Gods come to life.
The man smiled wide and greeted Tabbruis and Neal with a big hug while speaking Romanian. Then he stopped and said in a very thick accent, “I am sorry Charmeine and Shane. I forgot about our American guests. Welcome to the castle.”
Tabbruis announced formally with a bow and a huge smile, “Brother permit me to introduce Charmeine, my wife and my son, Shane.”
Dmitri bowed to them both.
Tabbruis said, “Charmeine and Shane, this is Dmitri Maximus, my friend and brother.”
Dmitri shook Shane’s hand and immediately got a strange look on his face. Then he asked Tabbruis, “May I kiss the hand of the fair Charmeine?”
“If you must,” he answered with a smirk.
Charmeine smiled and offered her hand.
Dmitri bowed placing a short kiss to it. When he stood up, his face became lifeless. All of them noticed his change of countenance immediately. With a telepathic glance, he nodded to his assistant, Thomas. Dmitri stuttered, “Please… feel… at home here.”
Like the wind, he was gone in an instant.
Charmeine thought Dmitri acted oddly and looked at Tabbruis.
He shrugged his shoulders and kissed her forehead.
Dmitri’s assistant smiled and said, “Dear friends welcome, my name is Thomas Daskolas,” and smiled shaking their hands.Charmeine noticed he was a nice looking young man who appeared to be twenty-five. Tall with sandy blonde hair, brown eyes and very muscular, she thought he was striking.
Thomas told Charmeine and Shane about the castle such as when meals were served, staffing, and luxuries they might indulge in. He escorted them to one of the large wings of the castle and their Master Suites which were richly and classically decorated. Each suite had their own sitting area, bedroom and bath with walk-in closets, desks, terrace, and every electronic gadget available.
When Charmeine and Tabbruis came into their Master Suite, they thanked Thomas.
Tabbruis closed the door and kissed Charmeine deeply holding her close.
She was warmed to the bottom of her soul and knew being in his arms was her favorite place to be.
Tabbruis whispered, “Welcome to my home. There is a reason I picked this wing of the castle to live in…” He opened the patio doors, and the sea breeze rushed in with a flourish and dissipated. Tabbruis guided her out on the terrace and said, “…it was for the view…”
“My Lord… this is breathtaking!” she shrieked. The terrace overlooked the Black Sea and plum orchards. She could smell the rich aromas all around and gasped, “Tabbruis, this is Heaven! If I lived here, I would never want to leave!”Overjoyed by her response, he knew she loved his home as much as he did. However, he had to inquire, “If you wish Charmeine, this can be your home too?”
“We… we can live here?” she asked.
“Yes, of course. Dmitri runs the castle, but this is my home also. We are in agreement about our family all living together,” he answered with a big smile.
Her eyes opened wide and asked, “Shane can live here with Sandra too?”
“Of course, it has all been arranged, that is… if you like it?” he probed.

Tabbruis and Charmeine
Charmeine almost tackled Tabbruis with a hug and exclaimed with joy, “Oh Tabbruis, this has got to be a dream! I have you, my family and a place to call home! Now, I believe I’ve died and gone to Heaven!”
Tabbruis held her tightly and with great relief said, “Charmeine all my wishes came true when I saw your face.” He kissed her and ran his hands down her shoulders. He pulled away and asked softly, “I am delighted you love the castle Charmeine. Would you stay here and be with me forever?”
Melting into his chest, she smiled and replied, “God, yes. I love you Tabbruis.”
