Teasers, trailers, and a contest head's up

February is already off to a busy start. In addition to writing Up from the Grave (Cat and Bones #7) and getting things ready for the upcoming release of Twice Tempted, this is also apparently Visitation Month at the Frost house. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law were here this past week and just left this morning. Then on Saturday, my niece and her boyfriend are visiting for a week. Right after they leave, four of my husband's friends are staying with us for another week. I'm sure everyone has missed us and it has nothing to do with it being ski season in the mountains *wink*.

Speaking of Twice Tempted, I'm having a book trailer made for the release. People ask me if book trailers have an impact on sales and my answer is an eloquent "I dunno." I do them mostly for existing readers because I think trailers are a neat way to provide another description of the story aside from the back cover copy (and I get a kick out of seeing what Book Candy Studios comes up with). If they happen to snare any new readers into trying the book, that's icing on the cake.  Look for the Twice Tempted trailer to release at the end of this month.

Before then, if you live in the US or Canada, you can get a sneak peek at the first two chapters of Twice Tempted (plus excerpts of other books) in the FREE ebook It Happened One Valentine's Day , which releases on February 12th. If you live in the US or Canada but you don't have an ebook reader, you can still read it on your laptop, phone, desktop, tablet, etc. Instructions are here. If you live outside of the US and Canada, as usual, the first 20% of Twice Tempted (plus all of the other novels in It Happened One Valentine's Day) will be available to read for free on HarperCollins website two weeks before release. I'll be sure to post the link once it's available.

And in the next week or so, also per usual, I'll post the list of songs I listened to while writing Twice Tempted. In case you haven't heard me talk about this before, with each book, I compile a song playlist that I listen to until the book is done. Then I listen to that same playlist again during revisions and copyedits. Basically I'm treating myself like Pavlov's dogs - when I hear a certain set of sounds, i.e., a book playlist, I've conditioned myself to a certain response. In this case, the response is to write/revise that particular book. This process isn't a one-size-fits-all recommendation for writing (nothing is except to write) but it works for me so I stick with it. This is also why you'll see me call out periodically for music recommendations. You have no idea how many of you have helped me write with your song suggestions, so thank you again!

Finally, I promised you a contest head's up, right? Here it is: In the next two weeks, I'll have an Arc giveaway of Twice Tempted on my Twitter page, my Facebook page and my website blog ( http://jeanienefrost.com/blog/ , if you're reading this from LiveJournal or Goodreads) so be sure to check back on all three places if you're interested in winning an early copy. Not on FB or Twitter? That's what the website blog contest is for since all you need is email to enter.

That's it for now. I have to clean up for the next set of guests plus get some work done. Hope you're having a nice February so far!

Maria Almeida I am just looking forward to more books

Khara Robinson I absolutely love your books, but I just have one question. Why did you decide to write Vlad's books in Leila's point of view? It was a little disappointing. We know Vlad and I was looking forward to gettig inside his head. In this book it just seemed like Leila was the main character and we were getting to know Vlad along with her.

I write all of my books according to how I think the story will be best told. Sometimes that's with multiple points of view (First Drop of Crimson, Eternal Kiss of Darkness) and sometimes it's with a single point of view (Cat's pov in the Night Huntress series and Leila's pov the Night Prince series). Whether this works is, ultimately, up to readers to decide, but I can only do what I think is best and hope that more people than not enjoy the results.

Khara Robinson Thank you for your quick reply, I wasn't expecting it. I really enjoyed the book, but Vlad is such a mystery I just wanted to know what he was thinking and what he was doing when he would disappear. You're one of my absolute favorite authors, and I'm really looking forward to reading Cat and Bones. I miss them!

Amy I love the book trailers! Do the folks who make the trailers read the book first? Do you get any input into the trailer making process?

Also, I'm so glad that you picked Vlad to write a series around. I imagine that it was really difficult to tackle such a well known character, but I really like your spin on him. He was definitely a character I was always glad to see in the Cat & Bones books.

Susan Jeaniene- I for one don't need a trailer- if it involves one of your great characters, I'm so there! Just waiting for new Vlad and Up From The Grave.

peachbird76 Yeah I'm with Susan, I don't need a trailer. If Jeanine wrote it, I'll buy it. I'm hanging out for the new Vlad myself.
