Azzam typed a text message to his mother on his HTC Incredible S.

“Assalamualaikum. Mama, how are you? I left something at home T_T”

It has been a while since the last time Azzam contacted his mother, once a week is already long enough what more if it is a month then. His mother must be worried sick. That morning, he wanted to say he misses her so much but he doesn’t want to use the regular phrase “I miss you” which is used by most people.

He just finished Psycholinguistics class and on the way to his next class which is Semantics. He waited while he walked.

After five minutes her mother’s reply came into his inbox “Wslm. I’m fine. Where have you been?”

English Lab 3 which is the venue for his next class was a few steps away from him, he typed a quick reply to his mother “I’ve been busy. Mama, I left something important at home only you can get it for me. I’ll get back to you. Got a class right now.”

He switched off his phone before he entered his class.

After one hour and a half his class, he got out of his class and straightly went to HS café located near the mosque.

Crashed down on one of the chairs there and switched on his phone. His phone vibrated endlessly indicating that a bunch of messages came rushing their way into his inbox.

‘Four messages from Mama’ displayed on his LED touch screen.

“How many times I’ve told you, you should pack your things well. Don’t leave anything behind! Don’t forget anything at home! I’ve reminded you again and again, time and again so that you shall not forget! So what you want now? You want me to post it for you? Don’t ever think I will post it for you. It’s not that I don’t love you but I want you to learn a lesson. If you really want it, come back home and take it yourself. Come back home straight away.”

Azzam smiled all the way. He knew his mother too well; he knew she is pissed off judging from her text message. He predicted that his mother would a long “advise” in SMS. If he is in front of her, she will definitely give him a non-stop lecture.

But he felt guilty for playing a game with his mother. He gave her a call to say his real intentions.

“Assalamualaikum. Mama. Sorry for making you worry just now” he started the conversation on the phone.

“Do you know what I left at home?” He asked his mother.

“No. You tell me” her mother as if not interested in answering.

“I left my wonderful memories with you at home. Memories only you can remember, mother” he answered.

“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” her mother’s voice was a bit soft, not like before.

“I miss our moments together, isn’t it good for a little humor?” he replied.

“Humph” She sighed.

“Do you forgive me mama?” Azzam using a soft appealing voice.

“Okla okla.”

It is nearly time for Zohor prayer “Mama, I got a class at 2pm. Need to do some reading beforehand.”

“Oh by the way Mama, you don’t have to post what I left behind. Haha. Assalamualaikum!”
