Story Weekend: Who Would You Dedicate a Book to?

http://www.dreamstime.com/-image14151176I’m sitting in Starbucks working on the dedication and acknowledgement pages for my September book, Necessary Lies, and it prompted an idea for this weekend’s Story Weekend: If you were writing a book right now, who would you dedicate it to and why?

If  you’re new to Story Weekend, here’s how it works: I pick a theme and you share something from your life that relates to that theme, however you interpret it. Thanks to all of you who’ve been contributing. As always, there are a few “rules”:

▪   The story must be true

▪   Try to keep it under 100 words. Embrace the challenge! That’s about six or seven lines in the comment form. I want others to read your story, and most people tend to skip if it’s too long. I know how tough it is to “write tight” but I hope you’ll accept this as a challenge.

message 1: by Rhona (new)

Rhona I would have to write a lot of books to be able to dedicate of to everyone. But my first dedication would be to my youngest daughter. My husbands aunt is an author and has dedicated books to my other children. My daughter was reading one of them and saw her siblings names in the book. She was sad that her name wasn't included. I explained that she wasn't born then, but she still wasn't happy.

Diane Chamberlain Oh, she needs a book dedicate to her! Better start writing, Rhone. :)

Rhona Haha unfortunately I can't write. I'm hopIng his aunt will write another one. My daughter is already a little bookworm. She's 5 and reading already. I think she would appreciate it more than all the other kids.

message 4: by Trisha (new)

Trisha Gensic I would dedicate the book to all of my Afghan English students, who had the freedom to go to school, the tenacity to withstand the taunts of youg boys for doing so, and who have now been reduced to little more han slaves to the men they were forced to marry; locked within the confines of the man's home, cookiing the men's meals (while being allowed to eat any leftovers); and trapped within the confines of a piece of clothing called a chaderie - a lot like a bag with jeavy netting over the eyes.

Diane Chamberlain thanks for opening our eyes, Trisha.

message 6: by Pam (new)

Pam My mother. She gave so much for me to have a better life and I owe her so much. She's in Heaven now with my Dad and I miss them both every day.

message 7: by Lori Naf (new)

Lori Naf I would dedicate a book to my husband and two sons. They are my world.

message 8: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Maher My first book would be dedicated to my mother. She has always been my hero - in ways I can't even describe. She has always been in the back of my mind and in the front of my heart-pushing me forward. Then I would have to write more for my husband and children.
