Like I have written about before with the tablet/e-reader market, these devices, long-term, are loss-leaders. Even the iPad. The real money to be made is a long-term relationship with the customer to fill that device with software, media, and services that cost incremental dollars. Much research has surfaced pointing to this, that tablet owners consume more of everything (probably because of the portability, great UE, and connectivity).
But Microsoft has said: no.
