One of My Favorite Scenes... Manipulation at its BEST!

Is it wrong to enjoy writing and reading about manipulation? Does it make it any better if the manipulator is handsome, cunning, smart, powerful and frick'n sexy as hell???
Feel free to answer my rhetorical questions... however, the fact is, I LOVE it!!!

When writing the following scene from TRUTH I couldn't stop smiling! If you haven't read TRUTH...or CONSEQUENCES please don't read this scene. For those who have.. come take a peek at the way my mind works!

Chapter 16... **SPOILER**I wanted a stronger more confident Claire. In my humble opinion, that strength wouldn't come in prison. She needed the support of others. Her new and old friendships provided her reinforcement and her refound strength began to emerge. This was first seen when she was kick-ass solid confronting Phil in San Antonio...(oh that made me smile too!)

Now she plans to show Tony the "new stronger" her. Knowing his ability to manipulate, she gives him only a few hours notice that their dinner venue has changed. Although I wanted to portray Claire as strong I believe it is very difficult to outsmart a master manipulator.

<spoiler> When his (Tony's)tall body inclined, allowing his lips to hover near her ear, her body tingled. Then, without warning he spoke. Claire's fantasy evaporated. Reality struck with a slap that only real life can elicit. Tony whispered, “I am glad visibility wasn't your goal for this evening. I would hate for you to be disappointed.”
Before Claire could respond, they stepped from the lounge into the restaurant; she gasped. Her neck stiffened as she took in the empty restaurant. No longer was her subconscious filled with memories of love and pleasure, but control and manipulation. The harshness deflated her lungs. Claire fought to breathe, experiencing the sensation of suffocation she’d suffered during the years of his domination.
With new found determination, she turned toward the sly smirk of her ex-husband, “Tony, what have you done?”
</spoiler>

What made this even more fun was his reaction. Yes he'd manipulated the situation; nevertheless, he was IMPRESSED with her effort!

I loved showing that Tony's manipulation was still present, yet at the same time we get a glimpse of a changed man from the one in CONSEQUENCES!!!

Please, tell me what your reaction was while reading that scene for the first time... even if you have a hate/love relationship with Mr. Anthony Rawlings... I find it hard to believe you didn't smile, shake your head and say "That son-of-a-bi***" And LOVE every minute of it!

Lisa First time I thought was Go Claire Go....then as I read here come Tony on his black horse with his wicked ways.

Second time reading I am amazed at Claire's strength to not turn around and just run. Tony still remains the force in her life even though he is changing.

----

There are so many scenes in both books that I still have to wrap my mind around. But my favorite Strong Claire scene... When she and Phil have a conversation in TX and she dominates with her new found determination.

message 2: by Amy (new)

Amy Jacobs "That son-of-a-bi***" was my main reaction throughout both books. of course so was "Ohhhh Fuuuuudddgggeee!" Now get to work on that last one! LOL

message 3: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I found it amazing that I wanted her to get even with him and when she was angry i was too but when it was hot and they were falling in love again it all evaporated just like in the book.

message 4: by Marsha (new)

Marsha I found myself cheering for Claire in her ability to stand up to the "a$$hat". Tony remains in her life, but I felt it was more on her terms since she was totally aware of his manipulative ways.

HILLZ My first reaction was that Tony is always one step ahead of her. I felt disappointed for her & felt she was NEVER going to get one up on him.

message 10: by K.S. (new)

K.S. Adkins My first reaction was to kick him in the balls. My second reaction was since they were alone Claire could do better with his balls then kicking them... Decisions, decisions....

Tina...born to be a Biker Babe When I think of Claire and Tony...I see a wolf and a lamb. Claire was able to tame the furry beast! Love this couple! I love that by the end of Truth, Claire has put an obvious plan in action that will save Tony and protect him from Catherine. I wonder what he does when he learns Claire has protected him, in esence saved him from himself, jail, feds and Catherine. Nobody in his whole life has saved him.

Lizzy I was damn mesmerized. to think that i hated him one minute and then i completely melted for him.. I complete relate Claire's feelings. she was trying so hard and she succeeded however at the same time tony was the only person that made her feel that real her..

message 15: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine Ha! That son of a bi*** were my exact words. I loved her new kick-ass attitude and her strength to stand up to Tony. Deep down I knew that he would always stay a step ahead of and that he would never leave her alone. I wasn't sure if I wanted him to stop trying to win her back. I just can't get over how quickly I fell in love with Tony again, yep again! I CAN NOT wait for the next one.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ TrixieTracy Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ I was excited that the new stronger Claire had taken control, then when Tony trumped her, I was sitting on the edge of my seat excited and nervous that 'he' was back...

message 17: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I was crawling out of my skin because I knew Tony was going to do something....I just didnt know what. Thhen when Claire noticed the empty restaraunt OmG! I was scared for her but excited at the same time.

I love hearing that my writing evokes emotions!

message 19: by Maggie (new)

Maggie My muses for Claire are DEFINITELY Olivia Wilde...Tony could be either Joe Manginello (w/o beard, because the has the EYES) or Jon Hamm, becasue he also has two side (dark and romantic)
