October for a guy who writes about ghosts

I have little time to write during the month of October, so of course that's when I want to write most of all. Since I write about ghosts a lot (my new book is a collection of ghostly tales and legends called Ghosts of Northern Illinois) Halloween is a big holiday for me. Even my novels tend to have ghosts in them. One of the main characters in Pale As a Ghost and Animal Instinct is a ghost. Ghosts even feature in Pop Goes the Weasel. Okay, there aren't any ghosts (except mention of a Holy one) in Wrestling With Jesus, but everyone needs a break in their routine every now and them.
So in October, when I'm not at the day job, I'm....scheduled for Author Events. I did one at the Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum last weekend, this weekend I'm doing one at the Coronado Theater, and on the 24th I'm signing books at an event at the Veteran's Memorial Hall in Rockford. And this is all good, except for one thing. I'm a writer for a reason. I like to tell tales, but I like to do it via the written word, not spoken. Speaking in front of people isn't my thing. I'm getting better at it, I suppose, but it's not my favorite thing. Still, I guess promotion is part of the whole writing deal. Sigh. So I'll do it. But I'd rather be at my laptop, working on my new novel.
