New Kind of Book Blog

There's a new blog for readers & writers and I think it's a great idea. Authors post their favorites and readers get an opportunity to learn what novelists like to read.

http://novelsauthorsread.wordpress.com/

We're all influenced by a variety of sources — classics, children's books, literature assigned in college... I remember reading Stephen King's "Carrie" when I was home from school with the flu. My grandmother was watching me and had no idea that my mom had left a scary book where I might find it.

"Carrie" with a high fever — explains a lot about me.

Patricia "The Italian Thing" By: Patricia Salamone
If you like humor you will love this book.

Pauline Conolly Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier frightened the life out of me when I read it from my parents ' bookshelf at a young age. Loved it though!

For sheer humour and whimsy I love Apple of my Eye, a sort of walking guide to New York by Helene Hanff. Have reviewed both these books on my website at http://www.paulineconolly.com

Candy Korman I was a huge Daphne du Maurier fan growing up. "Rebecca, Kiss Me Again Stranger, My Cousin Rachel" ... I read them all. I still remember a sleep over party when we read her original story The Birds and scared the living day lights out of ourselves. So much scarier than the Hitchcock film inspired by her story!

Thanks for reminding me about Jamaica Inn. I haven't thought about that one in years.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

Pauline Conolly Candy, I had forgotten about The Birds. My older sister told me the story late one night after she had seen the movie and the experience is still vivid! Other books which have had a huge influence on me (and my writing) are The Grapes Of Wrath and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

Candy Korman So many of the stories my dad read out loud and the books I read when I was really young simply stuck to me. I guess it's natural. Little kids are like sponges that way.

I thought you'd find this article interesting. It looks like the saga of bringing Rebecca to Broadway may be as mysterious a story as the original book.

Pauline Conolly Thanks for that Candy...what a great piece! Hope Rebecca ends up being a box-office success after all the difficulties!

So do I, but the backstory on the funding may wind up in one of my mysteries. It's such an intriguing tale!

Pauline Conolly Ha ha...yes, you will have to keep track of what happens and weave it into one of your books!

A.C. Flory Thanks for starting this discussion Candy! While I'm here I'm going to make a quick plug for The Books Authors Read and tell everyone that new author Carrie Rubin is now on the blog and sharing her favourite books.

Mind if I ask a question? Would the readers who've made comments here about their own favourite books like to have their say on The Books Authors Read? Maybe a page called Your Say. I'd really appreciate the feedback.

cheers
Meeks

I'm going to urge everyone to make that migration to Meeks blog to check out the book various authors treasure.
