Interview on Polvere alla Polvere

August 5, 2012

Dear friends of Polvere alla Polvere, today we have the honor of hosting a young writer. Hello Chiara, welcome to our literary salon. Our users are very curious and attentive, so I would say not to make them wait too long and begin immediately with the presentations.

Tell us about you. What do you do in your life? What are your interests?

A warm greeting to all users of the literary salon and thanks for offering this interview. My name is Chiara Cilli, I have twenty-one years old and live in Pescara. I graduated a year ago as a beautician specializing, but currently I'm a writer full time. I love to read, listen to music and watch movies and I have a passion for graphics.

When did you start writing?
I started at the age of sixteen years, writing the remake of the Alien movie saga first and continuing with the fanfiction about japanese cartoons. When I realized that making up stories ever changing made me happy, I understood that writing was my life.

What inspires you to write? Passion, desire to communicate and share thoughts and messages on topics to which you are linked in a particular way or desire to entertain the audience by giving vent to your creativity?
I would say both. I like to create characters and stories always different and I am intrigued to share with readers my ideas, my dreams, my deepest desires ...

How did you get the idea for your book and what's the plot?
The Queen of the Underworld series comes from my passion for the 'dark side' of the characters in a book or a movie. So I created Morwen, protagonist of this fantasy series, in which evil is at center of the stage. The first book, The awakening of the Fire, tells of the encounter between Morwen, Heir to the throne of the Underworld, and Prince Galadir. Morwen is destined to become the Goddess of the Gods and she is hounded from their Protèges, who have the order to kill her before she chooses to take the throne. However, even if she is in run, Morwen decides to help Galadir in freeing his Land from the threat of the Goddess Lash, thus meeting a terrible pitfalls and intense emotions that threaten to destroy her and the man who has conquered her heart.

Who is your favourite character?
I'm deeply tied to Morwen - she embodies all the nuances of the 'dark side' that most appeal to me and, as I wrote, she turned out to be exactly what I wanted: strong, passionate, cruel and unique - but during the editing I realized I have a visceral connection with Galadir. I love everything about him, his arrogance, his determination that sometimes leads to stubbornness, the smiles that deploys according to the circumstances, the way it manages to defy Morwen and to love her. Yes, except for the Heir to the throne of the Underworld, the Prince Galadir is the most close to my heart.

There will be a sequel?
It's a series of four books.

Is The Queen of the Underworld your first series or did you write other novels?
It is my debut fantasy series.

How did you get to the publication?
I had a bad experience with the first publishing house I contacted and one of the two partners, a longtime friend, introduced me to my current publisher, Mark Solfanelli, who believed in me and drove me into the world of publishing.

Today seems to be difficult, especially for beginner, finding the right publisher. What can you tell us about your experience? What is your relationship with your publisher?
More than difficult! My relationship with Edizioni Tabula Fati is very good and also with the other authors of the publisher. I confess that I was scared at first impact with the editor and I felt discouraged reading the criticism she has shared with me after the evaluation of the whole saga. Going forward, however, I realized that the editor had fully captured the essence of the protagonist of the books and since then, exchanging advice and opinions, things improved considerably. The editor and his staff believe a lot in me and this fills me with joy and encourages me to do my best. I could not find a best publisher with whom debutting!

It is said that a writer is first and foremost a reader. What are your favorite books?
I prefer the urban fantasy and paranormal romances for adults, but I also like contemporary erotic novels. My favorite author is unquestionably Keri Arthur, then there are E. L. James, Gena Showalter, J. R. Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lora Leigh ... and more!

There are different types of player, and many can be identified from the time of purchase. Some people choose a book by the cover, who puts his trust well-known names, who are attracted by the title or the plot and who chooses his readings according to specific literary genres. In which of these readers do you identify?
In all! If it's an author who I don't know, the cover is my criterion of choice - but I give a peek at the storyline, you never know. When it's a new novel by one of my favorite authors, I buy it without question. If it's a title that intrigues me, I read the plot, but not always then I purchase. When I choose a genre, however, I'm more inclined to deviate readings of urban fantasy, paranormal and erotic.

What are your expectations for the future? Do you have other literary projects in the pipeline?
Currently we are proceeding with the editing of the second novel of The Queen of the Underworld series, and the output should be scheduled for this fall. In the pipeline I have a string of novels in the process of expanding! They are ready to be evaluated: the saga sequel to The Queen of the Underworld series, a spin-off of The Queen of the Underworld, a cross-over of the saga sequel of The Queen of the Underworld, two urban fantasy novels and the first volumes of two paranormal series still in progress. Now I'm writing my first contemporary erotic novel, which I have in mind a series of three volumes.

Thank you for being here with us.
We wish you a future full of success.
