The more you do...

...the more there is to do.

This summer has been surprisingly productive. I finished The Left Hand of Justice and sent it off to the publisher. I wrote almost 32K words on Turnbull House, the second Ira Adler book. How this is happening, I'm not quite sure. I have an excellent outline, true, but the book has been writing itself unusually quickly and painlessly--even considering that I have most of the cultural and historical research done. It's almost like Adler is sitting at my shoulder dictating it to me.

I've been working with a few authors to hone their stories for the mystery anthology I'm putting together. And I started writing two other books: one is another Victorian with supernatural elements. Another is an Indiana Jones-style adventure set in the Americas during WWII, with a female Jones-like protagonist.

People ask where writers get their ideas--well, at least in my case, they jump out of dark alleys, knock me over the head, and go through my pockets for spare minutes. If I gave them all the attention they deserved the minute they demanded it, I'd never finish anything. As a result, I have a ridiculous number of outlines in my "to-do" folder.

Other than this, have been trying to stay out of the hellish heat. I wasn't made for desert conditions! Perhaps one day I'll be able to move somewhere with green and rain. Until then, I'll be remembering my two weeks in a cloud forest and wishing I was there.
