Action Sequences

What do Mills and Boon, the first three Star Wars movies and the Lethal Weapon movies all have in common?

They waste the reader/watcher's time with endless, pointless action sequences.

Whether it's a car chase with lots of crash-bang action, a space battle or soft porn, it's still what in the gaming world is known as an arcade sequence.

Arcade sequences are all very well for pre-pubescent nerdy kids who live for their joysticks. But to a reader, who by definition should be literate, they are the death of good writing.

If you really feel you can't be true to your creative vision without long action sequences, it's time to team up with a second-rate artist and go in for Manga.

Katy Oh, pooh, I poo-poo - I enjoy action. I loved the first 3 Star Wars movies, and I got a huge kick out of Lethal Weapon. So pooh :-) Hehehe. But yeah, I don't much care for books that are written like movies - I read a book because it is a book, not a movie - and I don't like to "read" movies or video games! Heh.

And manga? Yuck. I don't like the drawing style; I much prefer a more realistic-looking style. but that's a personal preference... :-)

Tabitha Ormiston-Smith We will have to agree to disagree on that one Katy - according to me, if noone's talking, then nothing's happening.

WHAAA---?? But ... but ... but... I'm always right and everyone should think the way I do!! Didn't you know that's the way I think? That everyone should bow down to my learned and valuable opinion? ;-)

Yeah, but seriously, it's cool - everyone has different tastes, and you expressed very well why you don't like action-oriented movies, which thus dictates your distaste for the same in books - totally cool. If you didn't live on the other side of the world and we ever got together for movie night, there might be some difficulty in finding something we would both enjoy, but since *that* isn't an issue, it doesn't matter, does it? :-)

Tabitha Ormiston-Smith I am sure Katy that if we did get together for movie night we would find something we would both like. E.G. - Man's Best Friend - dark enough for you and dog-related enough for me. Even if we trashed each other's choices I am sure we would knock back some drinks and have a great time.
