Is there really any better month than June? June marks the beginning of summer and all the wonderful things that come with it— the opening of beaches and pools, flowers in full bloom, the return of white pants (!), farmers markets. And let’s not forget about the longer days, warmer nights, and long-awaited vacations!

Summer gives us all the good things in life, including some extra opportunities to read. Whether on the beach on a tropical vacation, by the local pool, or on a park bench on your lunch hour, reading is an essential joy of summer. I wanted to share with you some of my book picks for Summer 2012— some classics, some perfect for the beach, and some brand new novels from authors I love. I hope this list inspires you to pick up something new or return to one of your old favorites!

Classics

. . . the books I can’t get enough of, no matter how many times I’ve read them

The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Peyton Place, by Grace Metalious

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, by Betty Smith

Cannery Row, by John Steinbeck

Beachy Goodness

. . . add a sunhat, towel, and maybe a fruity drink and you’re good to go

The Reserve, by Russell Banks

Summer Sisters, by Judy Blume

The Prince of Tides, by Pat Conroe

The Stand, by Stephen King

The Thornbirds, by Colleen McCullough

The Shell Seekers, by Rosa Mound Pilcher

Hot Off The Press

. . . you don’t want to miss these

Enchanting Lily by Anjali Banerjee

Where We Belong, Emily Giffin

Paris in Love, Eloisa James

Summer Days, Susan Mallery

The Paris Wife, by Paula McLain

Little Night, by Luanne Rice

Better Than Chocolate, by Sheila Roberts

Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake, by Anna Quindlen

Dog Days by Elsa Watson

The Song Remains The Same, by Allison Winn Scotch

And how about you? What’s your favorite summer read? Share your answer through my new Facebook contest and be entered to win a beach bag with three of my favorite summer books— one classic, one beach essential, and one just hot off the press! Before you enter the contest, don’t forget to “like” my page to stay in the loop about upcoming events!

And don’t forget, The Lakeshore Chronicles return on August 28th with RETURN TO WILLOW LAKE! Stayed tuned for more information leading up to the release.

Happy Summer and Happy Reading!
