Our fine distinction tonight is “symphony” vs “concerto.”
On the face it, I would have guessed that a concerto is smaller…but that would have been wrong, and probably mistaking concerto for a “chamber orchestra,” which is indeed smaller than a “symphony orchestra.”
A concerto has a full symphonic orchestra…but with a featured soloist who stands apart, and whom the piece of music is centered around—they are the focal point rather than the entire orchestra, and the piece of music is written...
