Today, Chicago band This House is Creaking (THiC) share their new single “2 LAMP (lava lamp).” Characterized by THiC’s sticky, catchy sound, this new track comes out swinging with distortion, knotty, fuzzed-out guitar, and, true to THiC form, unexpected left turns. Written last year after bandmates Ehmed Nauman and Micah Miller moved into a new apartment together, the song marked a moment of change, both in their living situations and in their creative collaboration. Through this shift, they found a shared creative space to consistently work through ideas together, finding themes that they wanted to keep exploring. The track pins down that moment of rebirth, of reflection — of when you find yourself yelling questions you didn’t know you had.
"The first song we wrote after moving from our old apartment, where our first two records were written and recorded,” says This House is Creaking. “An extremely cathartic song about cleansing yourself of old habits, relationships, mental blockades, whatever it may be, and starting fresh while letting those experiences inform your future self. Sometimes you just have to stare into a lava lamp."

In addition to opening for Hotline TNT earlier this September, the band has received stamps of approval from other indie mainstays, including an upcoming support slot for Water From Your Eyes' sold out Oct. 2 Chicago show, and supporting Delaney Bailey on a Midwest tour later this fall. Drawing on Miller’s roots in electronic music and Nauman’s skill as a guitarist (playing in bands such as Godly the Ruler and M.A.G.S.), the band’s mixture of sounds and inspirations is reflective of the expansive cross-pollination of the Chicago music community today. Within this thriving creative environment, This House is Creaking is becoming a scene favorite.

This past summer, This House is Creaking released their second album, I Want To Feel At Home Here. Tracks like the hooky, scrawling “Talk To Me” illustrate their bent towards noise and careful ear for melody, while “Elden Ring” displays a tender, earth-laden end of their range. It wrestles with wondering what is happening in the world and how to find oneself within it. One thing the album makes very clear is that, while they have a highly distinct sound all their own, you can never quite predict their next sonic steps.
