Edits are back!

I'm glowing right now. Literally, I'm probably on fire. I don't know lol. I got my book back from the editor and I'll be digging into it this weekend but until then I wanted to share her comments about it from her editor letter. I'm so excited!

"Thanks so much for allowing me to work on this book. It really astounded me for quite a number of reasons. First, I didn’t know where it was going most of the time. I was really surprised by how unafraid you were to be brutal, how willing you were to push your characters, and the different directions they all went once you broke them. Into this caustic mix, you’re weaving in political tensions and ambitions that we’re just starting to understand. Much like that pebble rolling down hill, this series has started small and events have pushed it to cascade farther and faster than I’d anticipated.
The funny thing is, I haven’t had a clue where this series was going when it started, and in this book, I equally didn’t really see where it was going till about the halfway point (that’s not a bad thing, but a testament to how well you strung me along while you wove the story together).
Your prose are sublime. You have some lines in here that truly astound me and some character moments with development and conversation that seriously nailed the dynamic you’re going for. You have quite a few moments in here where I stop to admire something (prose, plot, there are some moments of tension in here that really did it for me, interesting character relationship dynamics that I didn’t anticipate and the like. I even found a “theme song” for you.)
I’m extremely interested in where you’re taking this. I feel like the first book was a “tip of the iceberg” and this book expanded on it, but I still feel like the vast upsell of story is still being developed and hinted at, especially in the epilogue, and I honestly cannot wait to see where it goes.
One of the best things for me as an editor is to watch my authors grow and develop in their craft, and it’s really rare that I see someone advance in their craft as much as you have between book one and book two. You should be very proud.
Honestly, my edit letter is pathetically short with this one but it was such a solid book and I’m AMAZED by how hooked I was to this entire thing. I have had a really hard time pulling myself from this world. You pushed your characters in ways I didn’t expect. I don’t know what will happen to any of them. I’m eager to see what happens when politics get more engaged. You masterfully created a few characters I really would like to hang from the tallest tower and managed to take characters I loved and make them even more complicated and unpredictable.
You truly blew me away, and I really look forward to seeing what you do with this.
Thanks so much for allowing me to work on your book. "
