Freeze That Thought

For Jesus had already commanded the evil spirit to come out of him. This spirit had often taken control of the man. Even when he was placed under guard and put in chains and shackles, he simply broke them and rushed out into the wilderness, completely under the demon’s power. Luke 8:29 NLT
Freeze That Thought
There is a spiritual and mental exercise I call “brain freeze.” Brain freeze is when you stop a thought dead in its tracks before it becomes something else. Why? Because your thoughts become feelings, and your feelings generally become your actions. Thinking negative thoughts? Your feelings and actions will reflect that.

Have you ever prepared for an argument before it happened? I know I’ve rehearsed in my mind what I would say if the opportunity arose to tell off my boss or someone else who had offended me. I was going to give that person a “piece of my mind.”

The next thing I knew, that conversation became reality, and it didn’t go well for me. Why? Because I made that argument happen – an argument I should have never had. You can also think of it this way: God has drawn a line in the sand and called it “sin.” You and I tend to get as close to that line as we can, often putting our toes right on it while we say, “I’m not sinning yet. I’m good.” The question that needs to be asked is, “Why am I even close to the line? Why aren’t I a mile away from it?”

It’s like that with your thoughts. You take them right up to the line where they become actions, then act all shocked and shaken that you’ve crossed that line.

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” 2 Corinthians 10:5

Next time you start imagining a scenario or practicing the words you’ll say in a confrontation, brain freeze! Take that thought captive and cast it down.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Jesus-driven thinking helps and heals. This is what the Bible has to say on the subject: For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. – Romans 8:6

The Cherokee nation knew it, too. Check out this spot-on tribal tale:

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life. He told the boy, “A terrible fight is going on inside me. It is a fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and self-doubt."

The old man continued: “The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.” He then told the boy, “This same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute, then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The wise old chief replied, “The one you feed.”

What wolf have you been feeding? Just know the wolf of evil thoughts will eventually devour you, and likely others as well. Thoughts become actions, and there is always collateral damage.

That’s not you! You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.
et_pb_blurb"}">Freeze That Thought

Grounded in FaithDeclare!Every time I let go of offenses and offer up forgiveness, I feel free and lighter. I have freedom when I stop talking about what happened and start meditating on what God says. I want to reflect Jesus with all my life. I practice Pastor Troy’s brain freeze method. I freeze the condemning, judgmental thoughts before they come into my mind and choose to see it all the way Jesus sees it – with mercy, grace, and love.
