United Airlines 'Resolved' Tech Issue That Grounded All Flights

United Airlines is working to get passengers back in the air after temporarily grounding all U.S. flights due to a technical issue.

"We are working with customers to get them to their destinations after a technology disruption on Wednesday evening," the airline announced hours after issuing a ground stop. "The underlying technology issue has been resolved, and, while we expect residual delays, our team is working to restore our normal operations."

United was forced to halt all flights from taking off on Wednesday evening due to an issue with their weight and balance computer system.

"Due to a technology issue, we are holding United mainline flights at their departure airports," United said in a statement. "We expect additional flight delays this evening as we work through this issue. Safety is our top priority, and we'll work with our customers to get them to their destinations."

While the airline claimed flights already in the air at the time of disruption would not be affected, many passengers were "stranded" on tarmacs across the country.

"You have to let people off planes soon. This is unbearable," one frustrated traveler wrote via X. "Sitting on the runway for almost 2.5 hours now at [O'hare] with two kids under 5 waiting for a gate. Get them off the plane, please," another chimed in.

Passengers from Denver, Houston, Washington DC, and Chicago shared similar stories.

"Due to a technology outage, we are temporarily holding some United flights at their departure airports to manage gate availability at destination airports," the airline responded to multiple passengers who aired their grievances on social media. "This may result in delays throughout the evening as we work to resolve the situation. Our teams are focused on restoring normal operations as quickly as possible while maintaining safety as our highest priority. We apologize for the inconvenience."
