Man Missing For 28 Years Found in Melting Glacier

A shepherd made an incredible discovery last week when he found the body of a man who disappeared nearly three decades ago in a remote part of Pakistan.

According to multiple reports, the shepherd found the man completely preserved in a glacier exposed by melting ice in the Supat Valley mountain region. Reports say the man, discovered on Aug. 1, was found with his clothing still intact and identification on him.

“What I saw was unbelievable,” the shepherd who found the man, Omar Khan, told the BBC. “The body was intact. The clothes were not even torn.”

The outlet reports that the man was only identified as Naseeruddin.

Reports say the Naseeruddin disappeared in June 1997 during a snowstorm. Naseeruddin, who had a wife and two children, traveled via horseback with his brother, Kathiruddin. They were reportedly forced to leave their home due to a family dispute, according to police.

During their trek in the mountains, Naseeruddin somehow fell into a glacier crack. He managed to step into a cave, prompting Kathiruddin to search for help. But when he returned, Kathiruddin said he couldn't find his brother.

All these years later, Khan made the discovery of a body that mummified due to a lack of moisture and oxygen in the glacier.

Almost exactly a year ago, a similar scene unfolded in the Andes when police recovered the body of American mountain climber William Stampfl, who had been missing for 22 years.

Stampfl was 59 when he was buried by an avalanche in June 2002 in Peru's Mount Huascaran’s peak.
