James Andrew McGann Is the Suspect in the Devil's Den State Park Double Homicide

James Andrew McGann is the suspect in the Devil's Den State Park double homicide of two married hikers in Arkansas.

That's according to the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, which announced McGann's arrest on July 30 in the murders of Clinton and Cristen Brink, who were murdered while hiking with their two daughters. The kids were unharmed physically.

"Special Agents with the Arkansas State Police (ASP) have arrested James Andrew McGann, 28, of Springdale, in connection to a double homicide that occurred on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Devil’s Den State Park," the department wrote.

McGann "was taken into custody at 4:57 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at a business in Springdale. He was charged with two counts of Capital Murder," the release says.

The victims were Clinton David Brink and his wife, Cristen Amanda Brink

Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, "were fatally attacked while hiking with their two daughters. The girls, who are 7 and 9, were not injured and are safe with family members," says the release. The couple was found dead on a hiking trail on Saturday, July 26, police said.

The cause of death and motive were not released.

According to the Associated Press, the Brinks "had just moved from South Dakota to the small city of Prairie Grove in northwest Arkansas," where Clinton Brink was going to start working as a milk delivery driver.

The Brinks, who were from California, filled their Facebook pages with family photos.

A woman wrote on Facebook, "I just met Cristen Brink this past week in the ER. She was my nurse. She talked to me about her daughters, and I talked to her about mine. She gave me such relief, reassuring me that I was doing everything right and that everything was going to be okay, even though I was so sick and had nobody to help me. She held my baby — she didn’t put her down until I was ready to hold her again."

Police previously released an artist's sketch of the suspected killer

Police previously released a sketch of the suspect, as well as a picture of a man from behind.

"The wanted man is described as a white male of medium build, last seen wearing a long-sleeved shirt (with sleeves rolled up), dark pants, a dark baseball cap, and sunglasses. He was carrying a black backpack, wearing fingerless gloves, and may have sustained an injury during the attack," they wrote before the arrest.

"Witnesses observed him leaving the area in a black, four-door sedan — possibly a Mazda — with its license plate obscured by tape, traveling towards State Highway 170 or State Highway 220," they noted.

The governor said the arrest of James Andrew McGann provides comfort to the state

“No news can heal the enormous harm done to the Brink family in last weekend’s crime, but this announcement is a comfort and reassurance for our State. I am so proud of the Arkansas State Police, Park Rangers, local law enforcement, and others who have worked nonstop since last weekend to capture this suspect," said Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders in the release.

"I ask that Arkansans lift up prayers of thanks for the brave men and women of law enforcement – and offer prayers of condolence to the victims of this horrific crime. Let there be no mistake – we do not tolerate violent crime in Arkansas. If you target innocent people, law enforcement will hunt you down and bring you to justice," she added.

ASP Col. Mike Hagar added, “I’m extremely grateful for the long hours and dedication that our Agents put forward in bringing justice to this family. The collaboration between State Police, other state and local law enforcement agencies, and our federal partners has been second to none. Because of their hard work and investigative skill, we were able to take a monster off the streets, and bring relief to those two precious girls, and the rest of our citizens.”
