At Home Changes Its Mind on Closing Two Stores After Bankruptcy
Over the years, At Home has become one of the most beloved furniture and home decor retailers in the country. After falling into tough financial times for the past several months, the retailer was forced to file for bankruptcy and close several stores. However, some stores previously expected to close will actually remain open.
Last month, At Home Group officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as a result of "broader economic and retail-specific market pressures," court documents read.
According to court filings, At Home cited rising interest rates, "persistent inflation," and a growing concern over unsustainable customs costs resulting from increased tariffs in the decision to file for bankruptcy.
"Given the expenses associated with brick-and-mortar operation and the issues affecting the retail industry, a number of the (At Home) remaining stores are operating at sub-optimal performance levels," court documents revealed.
Initially, At Home Group planned to close 26 of its "underperforming" stores across the country after the bankruptcy filing. However, despite that initial determination, the company has now decided to keep two of those stores open, according to USA Today.
Despite the bankruptcy filing, At Home has decided not to close two stores previously slated to be closed: the store at 3201 N. Mayfair Road in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and the store at 301 Nassau Park Boulevard in Princeton, New Jersey.
However, as USA Today reports, At Home is still set to close 24 other stores by Sept. 30 of this year.
