A Walmart spokesperson told Newsday that the company was “working with police and defer questions to them right now.”

Daily Mail reported that "shoppers fled for their lives after a suspect brandished a knife" inside the Walmart, citing witnesses. One person claimed the attack "occurred near the pharmacy counter with many of the victims said to be elderly," Daily Mail reported, but this was not confirmed by authorities, who have provided few details.

The mass stabbing reports come after an employee at a Walmart was accused in a separate incident of stabbing a co-worker behind the deli because he believed she disrespected him. The victim survived but required "multiple surgeries," according to KSDK-TV.
