Sanpin Tea

Each month has a special tea, and this August you’ll find the Sanpin Tea pairs perfectly with your snacks.

Sanpin tea is essentially jasmine-infused tea, made by combining semi-fermented tea leaves (often similar to oolong) with jasmine flowers. The result is a smooth, aromatic tea with a delicate flavor—less grassy than green tea and more floral than black tea.

Origins and NameThe word sanpin comes from the Chinese word “香片” (xiangpian), meaning “fragrant slice” or jasmine-scented tea.This tea tradition made its way to Okinawa through historic trade with China during the Ryukyu Kingdom era, and it’s remained a beloved local drink ever since.Cultural Significance in Okinawa
