David Corenswet Reveals Deliberate Push to Keep Superman From Feeling 'Boring'

While David Corenswet’s debut in the highly anticipated Superman film isn’t technically slated for release until July 11, some fans and critics were treated to early showings. And regarding the initial returns, it appears that director and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has given many fans what they wanted.

However, the numerous positive reviews that have appeared on social media have also often referenced Corenswet's name. The 32-year-old actor admitted that he took on this role with a focus on not allowing Superman to feel "boring," which he told GQ.

Thankfully, it sounds like Corenswet knocked it out of the park.

One breakdown of Superman that stood out came from Phase Hero's Brandon Davis, who stated Corenswet was "born for Superman."

"Superman is a triumph for the new DC Universe," Davis said. "It’s a comic book brought to beautiful live-action life, brimming with hope & fulfillment. It actually elicited tears of joy from me."

"It’s a Superman for everyone. David Corenswet was born for Superman & Clark Kent. Loved it."

It's an incredibly impressive review, and it also connects with Corenswet's comments to GQ about showcasing another side of Superman.

“The one way [superheroes] become boring is if you just keep doing the same thing over and over again,” Corenswet said. “And so, just like Chris Nolan took Batman and did something darker and more grounded with the character, Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill explored a side of Superman that hadn’t been explored on the big screen."

"So, all I was saying was they’re doing it so well. Whenever they’re finished, I’d love to see the next one go the other way, and let’s see the other side."

Although moviegoers will, of course, form their own opinion of Superman and Corenswet's portrayal of the superhero, the early returns have the arrow pointing up.

Corenswet's push to give fans a Superman that shows "the other side" is intriguing in itself, but it sounds as though he gave even more than that.
