Taylor Swift’s Long-Awaited Win Leaves Scooter Braun With Just Five Words

Scooter Braun has issued a five-word response to the news that Taylor Swift has finally bought back the rights to her master recordings.

“I am happy for her,” Braun said in a brief statement to The Independent, after Swift announced her long-awaited deal to regain ownership of her first six albums.

The move marks a major victory for Swift, who has been locked in a high-profile feud with Braun since 2019. That year, Braun’s Ithaca Holdings acquired Big Machine Records, giving him control of Swift’s masters in a deal she described as her “worst-case scenario.” Swift publicly accused Braun of “manipulative bullying” and said she was denied the chance to buy back her masters outright, instead being offered a deal to “earn” them back one album at a time.

Braun later sold Swift’s masters to Shamrock Capital for more than $300 million, a move that reignited the feud. Swift, 35, accused Braun of selling her music without her knowledge... again... and announced plans to re-record her early albums to regain control. Since then, she has released four re-recorded albums under the “Taylor’s Version” banner.

Swift’s recent announcement revealed that she had successfully purchased her masters from Shamrock Capital, marking the end of a years-long struggle. “I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening,” she wrote in an emotional statement. “All of the music I’ve ever made... now belongs... to me. And all my music videos. All the concert films. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs. The memories. The magic. The madness. Every single era.”

Sources close to the deal told People that Braun was not involved in the final agreement, contrary to reports suggesting he had “encouraged” Shamrock to sell. “Taylor now owns all of her music, and this moment finally happened in spite of Scooter Braun, not because of him,” the source said.

For Swift, it’s a long-awaited win. For Braun, his brief statement seems to signal the end of a very public dispute.
