Joe Rogan Shares Thoughts on Kanye West's 'Heil Hitler' Song
Just last week the artist formerly known as Kanye West released a new song Heil Hitler that caught the attention of the music world, for good reason.
The song was released on May 8, which also marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), when World War II ended in Europe. West, who changed his name to Ye in 2021, sparked backlash with lyrics like "They don't understand the things I say on Twitter, Heil Hitler," and blamed events in his life like his custody battle as to why he "became a Nazi."
With the song spreading across social media, popular podcast host Joe Rogan spoke about its contents with fellow comedian Tom Segura. During their conversation, the UFC analyst admitted West's controversial new song is "kind of catchy," before drilling into specifics.
"What are you doing, dude?... At a minimum, you're going to get less educated people to go like, 'This is a fun thing to say,'" Segura said, sparking a lengthy response from the Joe Rogan Experience host.
"It is crazy, but it's also kind of a sign of the times," Rogan said. "This is a chaotic world we're living in. And it's like, OK, this kind of highlights the benefits—I want to say this carefully, I want to say real clearly—I don't support people saying that. I don't think it's a good thing to say. I don't say it. I certainly don't think any racism is good. I don't think antisemitism is good. I don't think anti-Christianity is good. I don't think Asian hate is good."
He continued, suggesting banning the song lends itself to West's points.
"I don't think anything is good, but there's a benefit to just letting people talk. Like let people say whatever the f*** they want to say, even if it s****. This is the benefit of Twitter, but this is also the bad part. It's like, that f****** song has so many millions of hits on Twitter," he added. "It's been banned from every platform, but is it good to ban things from platforms, or is it better to let it be out there and let people talk about it? Because if you ban it, then people want to hear it more."
