Netflix is Removing 'Black Mirror: Bandersnatch' on Monday
Back in 2018, Netflix released Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, an interactive film in the science fiction anthology series Black Mirror that gave viewers a chance to help the story progress in a sort of choose-your-own-adventure format. However, subscribers will only have a few more days to experience it.
Bandersnatch was not the first time that Netflix launched an interactive film, but it was easily the most iconic, given the popularity of the Black Mirror series. The streaming service did not confirm the interactive element to the film until its release, providing a bit of a surprise to fans.
The interactive experience allowed fans to make decisions that impacted the way the story played out.
However, while it was undeniably popular, especially at the time of its release, it seems like Netflix has decided that it will no longer host Bandersnatch in its library.
According to What's on Netflix, the streaming service has decided to pull the iconic interactive from its library effective Monday, May 12, giving fans just a few more days to experience it.
In addition to Bandersnatch, Netflix will also be pulling Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend – another one of its interactive specials.
While fans might be disappointed, Jay Peters of The Verge points out that the decision should not necessarily be all that surprising, considering Netlix decided to remove all but four of its interactive specials from its library last year.
“The technology served its purpose, but is now limiting as we focus on technological efforts in other areas,” spokesperson Chrissy Kelleher told The Verge ahead of those removals last year.
So if you want to experience Bandersnatch again, you have a very limited time to do it.
