'The Mandalorian & Grogu' Just Revealed the Return of a Star Wars Tradition

In the upcoming 2026 movie The Mandalorian & Grogu, the titular bounty hunter and little Baby Yoda creature will make the leap from Disney+ to the big screen. And in doing so, it sounds like the movie will bring back some very classic Star Wars action.

During Star Wars Celebration in Japan, new footage from The Mandalorian & Grogu was screened for fans in attendance. And, according to the official Fandango X account, some of that footage included a "big fight inside of a massive walker!"

This can only refer to the Imperial AT-AT Walkers, made famous in the opening battle of The Empire Strikes Back.

While the exact nature of this battle isn't clear, bringing back a massive Walker of any kind to a new Star Wars movie is bound to make all sorts of different kinds of fans happy. For those who remember when the classic trilogy could only be watched in the theater or on VHS, the AT-ATs from The Empire Strikes Back were one of the coolest, most terrifying things ever.

And if you loved N64 games like Shadows of the Empire or Rogue Squadron, then you also remember how difficult it is to take down one of those things. Mando and Baby Yoda clearly have their work cut out for themselves.

It was also confirmed at Star Wars Celebration that Sigourney Weaver's new Star Wars character will be a starfighter pilot of some kind. In the movie, she will be sending Mando on whatever mission makes up the central story of the film.

The Mandalorian & Grogu stars Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver, and will hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
