Mick Jagger May Not Get Married Despite Engagement To Melanie Hamrick

Melanie Hamrick, longtime partner of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, has confirmed they are engaged, but she said marriage may never be in the cards.

In a new interview with Paris Match, the 37-year-old retired ballerina revealed that she and Jagger, 81, have been engaged for “two or three years.” Despite the ring and commitment, she said they’re in no rush to walk down the aisle. “Maybe one day we'll marry, maybe not. We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything.”

The couple’s relationship began in 2014 after meeting backstage in Tokyo. Their romance officially started months later, and they welcomed their son Deveraux in 2016. Hamrick admitted that their 44-year age difference isn't a factor for her.

Though she previously played coy about the diamond ring, calling it a “promise ring” in a 2022 interview with People, Hamrick just now acknowledged their engagement. However, that engagement came with no pressure for a wedding. She noted that the keys to her relationship with the aging rocker were mutual support and happiness.

The pair have occasionally collaborated professionally, most notably on the ballet Porte Rouge, which featured choreography by Hamrick set to Rolling Stones music. Despite the success, Hamrick said she prefers to keep her work separate from their relationship.

“We're in such similar careers, to keep it separate is better,” she said.

While fans may never see a rock 'n’ roll wedding for Jagger, the couple appear content defying convention. For now, the ring signifies a deep bond, not a ticking clock or promise to head to the altar.
