'Euphoria' Star Shares Devastating Health Diagnosis as Season 3 Begins Production

Actor Eric Dane, who became known for playing Dr. Mark Sloan in the hit show "Grey's Anatomy" and currently stars in the HBO series "Euphoria," shared a devastating health diagnosis this week.

In an interview with People Magazine, Dane revealed that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

"I have been diagnosed with ALS,” Dane told People Magazine. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”

Despite his diagnosis, it seems that Dane is still set to appear in the third season of "Euphoria," which is set to begin filming next week.

“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week,” he told People Magazine. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”

ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, is a rare and progressive neurological disorder that gradually leads to muscle paralysis.

Early symptoms of the disease often include limb weakness or twitching and may be accompanied by slurred speech. The condition impacts the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord responsible for muscle control, ultimately causing patients to lose the ability to speak, eat, walk, and breathe on their own.

There is currently no cure for ALS. While most patients live three to five years after diagnosis, some patients have been known to live on for decades.
