Gore as a Horror Sub-Genre

Tender Is the Flesh Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

DNF page 50.

The book is well-written and masterfully translated, but I couldn't get into the relentless gore.

I know that gore can be an important aspect of horror, but in extreme cases, gore is used excessively and it becomes its own sub-genre of horror rather than simply being an element of a horror story.

This is the case with Tender is the Flesh.

Without doubt, farming mindless humans for food is horrific, but most of the book's horror is derived from gore.

I have rated the book 4/5 because I think it deserves objective praise; however, I personally don't find gore to be entertaining.
