I decided to share some of the struggles of a beginner writer... :)
So, here’s the thing – this is exactly how I looked on Sunday, just like the girl in the picture, when my laptop suddenly turned off and refused to turn back on.
“You’ve saved your dystopia online, right?” my husband asked.
“Umm…” I replied, staring blankly at him.
He immediately knew what that reaction really meant.
Tomorrow, the first workday of the week, I’ll take it to a repair shop to save my dystopia—the one I recently shared with you all. That, however, didn’t calm me down one bit. I kept thinking about how uncertain it was whether they could retrieve the 90 pages of my first draft. And so it began—the crying, the lamenting, the doubts, the reassurances...
Eventually, my husband went to the nearby mall to get... a device to connect the laptop’s hard drive and save my dystopia. He also bought me a new laptop since, well, I need one. By the time he returned, I had cleaned the entire apartment, driven by my nerves, while cheerful children’s songs played in the background, courtesy of my daughter’s playlist.
“Is your husband an IT specialist or something?” he said as he transferred my dystopia and all my other files from the hard drive to the new laptop.
I thanked him, jumped for joy, and celebrated...
Friends, my husband is my hero.
Now, share your heroic story!
